lesson 4 hair - sleek ponytails and messy buns

Sleek Pony Tails

In this lesson we were practicing making the perfect sleek ponytail.
Heather Shotbolt was my model. I first brushed through her hair, making sure it wasnt knotted and was flowing nicely. I then pulled the hair back into a pony tail in the middle of the head. Using my tail comb i combed all the hair back, holding it tightly in place, making sure there were no lumps and bumps and all the hair was smooth and slick. I asked heather to look down and then made sure the underneath and back of the head was also sleek and wasnt drooping. I then used a hair band to tie the hair tightly in place and made sure it was in the middle. I then used 2 grips to grip the back of the hair under the pony tail to make sure it was very neat and tight. Using the end of my tail comb and hair spray, I sprayed back and tucked back all the loose, stray baby hairs so that the final look was clean and sleek.

I was really happy with the end result of the pony tail and think it looked very clean and sleek. It didnt have many loose hairs and was tight, but comfortable on the models head. I was very happy with how it turned out.

Health and Safety
1. Make sure all my equipment and brushes are cleaned properly so as not the spread anything from one client to another.
2. Make sure that my pin tail comb is safely down or tucked into my palm whilst not being used so as not to accidently stab myself or others.

3. Make sure my hands are washed and clean before starting the look.
4. Make sure my hair is away from my face.
5. Make sure I dont have any excessive jewellery on that could catch, cut or scratch my model.
6. Make sure all my products are layed out properly and neatly so as not to cause a hazard.
7. Ensure there is nothing on the floor that can be tripped or fallen over and all bags and coats are away.
8. Make sure I am wearing shoes with a closed toe so as if anything is dropped it doesn't cause damage to the toes.
